We often receive enquiries from friends planning a trip away together. Many times it will be friends who go way back, or sisters or cousins. But sometimes it will be two ladies who might know each other through a club but may not be close friends. They both want to travel, just not alone. The trouble is, often these people don’t want to travel solo, but they still enjoy their own space and let’s face it, cruise cabins can often be a bit, well…cosy! Even if the cabin is technically a “twin” cabin, the gap between the twin beds can be little more than a hand span.
It’s one thing to enjoy each other’s company and have fun discovering new cities and destinations. It’s a completely different thing to know how loudly someone snores or whether one talks in their sleep (or worse!).
That’s why cruises offering free solo supplements are fantastic for friends travelling together. You get the benefits of companionship throughout your holiday but you’re also able to enjoy a bit of privacy and some downtime to yourself.
They’re also good for larger groups travelling together who have solo travellers with them. Single people are often excluded from travelling with larger groups of friends because they either have to “third wheel” with a couple which can be awkward to say the least, or pay twice the price. If the cruise has a free solo supplement option, they can join in at the same price.
More and more cruise lines are recognising that there are more solo travellers willing to travel these days and there are more and more options. These may be available for select cabins or on select sailings but it’s worth checking out the options as it can make the world of difference to the overall cruising experience!
