Let's Go Camping!

Let's Go Camping!

Let’s go camping this summer!  We’re not talking about regular camping – this is camping with a twist. We’re talking about camping on the ice in Antarctica!  Yes, you read right.  Sleeping bags and mattress roll … out on the ice!

This may sound like a far cry from the luxury we usually tempt you with, but this experience will be life changing.  It’s one of those opportunities that you only ever get once in your life – it’s a real seize-the-day moment!

Picture this:  You’re wrapped up warm in layers of thermal clothing, gloves and warm hat.  The air is chilly on those exposed parts of your face, but you’re surprisingly toasty for being surrounded by ice. You roll out your sleeping mat and thermal sleeping bag and snuggle in.  Around you, you hear the squawks of penguins from the nearby colony settling in for the evening, a crack and rush of a calving glacier, the impossible stillness of a continent largely untouched by human activity.  Above you is the spectacular Antarctic night sky – far, far removed from the masses of city lights.

Sleep is the furthest thing from your mind.  There will be plenty of time for that tomorrow when you board the ship once more and set off for more adventures.  For tonight, it’s about being one with nature.  You have to pinch yourself to believe that you’re really camping on the ice in Antarctica.  This is an experience you will never forget!

Each year, just a limited number of people get this incredible opportunity.  Aurora Expeditions offer a night out on the ice as part of three of their Antarctic voyages – Spirit of Antarctica (12 days), Antarctic Peninsula in Depth (15 days) and Falklands~Malvinas & Antarctic Peninsula (16 days).  As you can imagine, this activity is highly sought after so it’s really important that you book in early.

What a fantastic story to tell the grandkids!
