Australia-NZ Travel Bubble
It’s here! The Australia-NZ quarantine-free travel bubble begins on April 19. Time to hunt out the passport - and make sure it hasn’t expired!
It’s been a long time coming and, for those of us in the travel industry, we’ve done the hard yards this year business-wise. News of the first quarantine-free bubble is music to our ears! It’s the first solid indication that the world is starting to open up again.
New Zealand’s Prime Minister, Jacinda Adern, has advised there are a number of measures taken to maximise the safety of travellers and communities. For example, travel within this bubble will be undertaken on planes that carry only passengers that have been in Australia or New Zealand for over 14 days and flight crew will not have been flying anywhere else. There are segregated areas within airports and pre-travel screening if necessary.
In the 24 hours following the announcement, Air New Zealand, Qantas and Jetstar were run off their feet with new bookings with fares across the Tasman starting at $249 one way.
This unique bubble offers an unprecedented opportunity – the chance to explore Australia and New Zealand with fewer crowds, shorter wait times and greater availability. And as we’ve seen over the last year, life is full of surprises so why not seize the day and make the most of our opportunities while they’re there!
