CRUISING’S SPICIEST DESTINATION!
Calling all cruise enthusiasts! If you’re a well travelled cruiser who has ticked several destinations off your must-visit list, this cruise may just be your next contender. Introducing The Spice Islands and Papua! Lesser known than traditional cruise destinations like Tahiti and Alaska, The Spice Islands are the hottest secret in modern cruising.
Once a mecca for merchant ships seeking sought-after spices like nutmeg and cloves, the Spice Islands have a chequered history of various nations vying for their possession. Today, these islands are a far cry from the Spice Islands of yesteryear, instead offering a calm and peaceful persona as they welcome visitors to explore stunning beaches, fascinating architecture reflecting the Dutch and Portugese occupation and deeply-rooted culture and traditions.
Ponant Cruises’ brand new luxury expedition ship, Le Laperouse, will be taking just 180 guests on an unforgettable 12 day itinerary starting in Cairns in May this year. The voyage ventures north to Cape York, before crossing to Asmat, Triton Bay, Sebakor Bay, Kei Islands and Banda Neira before finishing in Darwin.
You can expect to see traditional villages with their unique thatch-roofed stilt houses and warrior ceremonies in Asmat and incredible marine life in Triton Bay, now considered by marine biologists to be the epicentre of the Coral Triangle due to the area containing more fish and coral species than anywhere else in the world. In Sebakor Bay, you’ll discover water-filled caves and isolated beaches and then swim and snorkel in the deserted bays of the Kei Islands. Finally, you’ll see the famed Banda Neira of the Spice Islands where all the action once took place.
On board Le Laperouse, you’ll want for nothing! Elegantly luxurious, the ship is small enough to offer exceptional personal service, yet big enough to offer large public spaces and choices for dining. You’ll have the chance to mingle with expert naturalists, marine biologists and expedition experts and learn fascinating insights into the life in these islands, both on land and under water. Staterooms and suites are beautifully appointed and you’ll have the services of a butler to take care of your every need. Once on board, meals, beverages and excursions are all included in the price so you can relax and make the most of the gastronomic treats in store!
